October  2004

It has been only five weeks since we completed the purchase of the Oldfield home in Southbury and only three months since we made the decision to leave our lives in Fairfax, Virginia and start off on this new adventure.  Technically, Ed is retiring, but the more appropriate term is that we are both "starting a new career" as Innkeepers.  Ed is still finishing up his commitment with his former employer and can't wait until November 1 when he will be at Cornucopia at Oldfield on a full time basis and not just weekends.

Our immediate challenge was to get our new home ready for guests.  Christine has been very busy over the past three months visiting stores both on line and in person to find just the right furnishings. The beauty of Colonial American style speaks to the appreciation of authentic shapes, textures, and colors reminding us of America's history.  The Keeping Room has been  furnished in this Colonial  tradition with a camel back sofa and two leather wing chairs.

The grounds look outstanding surrounded by fall colors.  Ed has some leaf raking to do when he arrives in November!  Our bird feeders are in place and a variety of birds are finding their way.

Many people ask us why we would want to run a Bed and Breakfast.  There are also many who say "that's just what we always wanted to do".  We have always enjoyed sharing our home with old friends as well as making new ones, paying attention to details, and making people feel comfortable so they can relax.  In this hectic modern world, that seems to us to be an important thing to do.

We hope to see you here one day soon.
